16th International Workshop on Enterprise Modeling and Information Systems Architecture - EMISA 2026
Bayreuth, Germany, March 10 & 11, 2026
New information technologies enable enterprises to innovate their core activities, from their information systems, via their business processes, to their business models. These innovations pose design and engineering challenges which, in their turn, result in several research challenges for the fields of enterprise modelling and information systems architectures. At the same time, the new information technologies also provide new opportunities to support the work involved in (continuous) design and engineering of enterprises and their information systems.
EMISA 2026 is the 16th international workshop in a series that provides a key forum for researchers and practitioners in the field on design methods for information systems. The workshop series emphasizes the need for a coherent view on this field, fostering integrated approaches that address and relate all relevant aspects of enterprises (e.g., value propositions, business services, business processes, business rules, information systems, IT infrastructures), cross-cutting concerns (e.g. security, privacy, compliance) across stakeholders, designers, engineers, and domain experts. The workshop is organized by the GI Special Interest Group on Design Methods for Information Systems (GI-SIG EMISA), which provides a forum for researchers from various disciplines who develop and apply methods to support the analysis and design of information systems.
Subjects
The workshop is open to a broad range of subjects. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Service and value modelling
- Process modelling and process-aware information systems
- Patterns for enterprise and information systems architectures
- Complex event processing and event-driven architectures
- Domain-specific modeling methods and languages
- Meta-modeling and foundational ontologies
- Theoretical foundations of (enterprise) modelling
- Method engineering
- Quality of modelling methods and languages and (architecture) models
- Process mining and enterprise mining
- Data-driven approaches for modeling and information systems architectures
- Assisted enterprise and information systems modelling
- Applying Large Language Models for modeling and analysis
- Ethical aspects of enterprise modeling and information systems architectures
- Experiences of teaching enterprise modeling and information systems architectures
Submissions
EMISA 2026 calls for submissions in the following categories:
- PhD Research Proposal (short paper of up to 5 pages): Proposals for talks about ongoing PhD theses. The proposals should describe the motivation of the thesis, its research goals, current status, and future plans. At the conference, the PhD students will have the chance to present their thesis and receive feedback on it in a dedicated session. Note that the three best submissions in this category are awarded a travel grant up to 600€ by the GI-SIG EMISA.
- Current Research Talk Proposal (extended abstract of up to 2 pages): Proposals for scientific talks of international excellence, with the goal of additional dissemination. The proposals must be based on published or accepted papers from international conferences or journals.
- Novel Directions Talk Proposals (short paper of up to 6 pages): Proposals for talks that motivate a novel research direction, outline research gaps, and sketch major challenges, with the goal of providing inspiration to and stimulating discussions with other researchers.
- Idea Talk Proposals (short paper of up to 2 pages): Proposals for short talks that present a visionary research idea, which might not be fully fleshed out yet, with the goal of receiving feedback on how to further develop that idea.
Any manuscript should be submitted to EasyChair. You will have to choose the category as a topic during the submission process in EasyChair. Please select exactly one of the topics for indicating whether you are submitting for the category PhD Research Proposals, Current Research Talk Proposals, Novel Direction Talk Proposals, or Idea Talk Proposals.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via mail: <resch@bwl.uni-kiel.de> and <kate.revoredo@hu-berlin.de>
Publication
PhD Research Proposals and Novel Directions Talk Proposals will be published in the Digital Library of the GI (Template). Current Research Talk Proposals and Idea Talk Proposals will only be published on request of the authors.
